Demanding police accountability

Bennie Branch

BennieBranch

Bennie Branch was murdered by Tacoma Police Officer Ryan Bradley on September 8, 2019. Officer Bradley shot Bennie in the back 7 times in front of his mother. Bennie was not a threat. TPD immediately tried to sweep Bennie’s murder under the rug. Officer Bradley is still actively working on the police force! A new independent investigation has been opened into Bennie’s murder.

The Family’s Demands:

1. We want an independent investigation, not only in Bennie’s case, but in all Tacoma Police Department homicides going forward.

2. We want the Chief of Tacoma Police, Donald Ramsdell, to hold himself accountable and resign from his position. There are too many deaths occurring under his watch for the public to to have trust in him. (As of July 20, 2020, Chief Donald Ramsdell announced his retirement effective January 1, 2021)

3. We want Mayor Victoria Woodards to demand that Officer Ryan Bradley be fired, as she has done in other local cases.

4. We want Officer Ryan Bradley fired, charged, and convicted for killing Bennie.

5. We want body cameras for all Tacoma Police Officers and new procedures to drug test and provide counseling for officers.

6. We want a family liaison to assist with communication and updates on the status of the investigation.

Governor Inslee has designated the Washington State Patrol to conduct an independent investigation.

The Family’s Demands:

1. Tacoma Police Chief Donald Ramsdell must resign. (As of July 20, 2020, Chief Donald Ramsdell announced his retirement effective January 1, 2021)

2. Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor must resign.

3. Pierce County Sheriff Information Officer Ed Troyer must resign and withdrawal his candidacy for Sheriff.

4. Tacoma Police Officers Christopher Burbank, Matthew Collins, Masyih Ford, and Timothy Rankine must be fired and arrested.

5. Ed Troyer must be charged with obstruction of justice.
